Master Rifle Instructor

** Effective immediately – all officers attending specialized firearms course will be required to bring their own ammunition. The Master Rifle Instructor    Apprenticeship requires 150 rounds of ammunition.**

Required Ammunition Types: Officer must bring 150 rounds of the appropriate .223/5.56 ammunition for their rifle. Ammo must be factory ammo only, no reloads. Brass case ammunition only, no steel case. Absolutely no penetrator ammunition. Officers will not have their brass returned to them unless they collect it themselves and bring their own container.

Course Description

This program is designed to provide a Police Firearms Instructor with the knowledge, training, and skills necessary to develop an effective in-service training program for the AR-15 platform Urban Police Rifle. This M.F.I.- Rifle certification is complementary to our original Master Firearms Program and one of our 40hr courses (Police Strategy and Tactics) is an overlap between the two M.F.I. certifications. Just as the original M.F.I. program goes well beyond basic firearms instructor training; this program is designed to meet the highly unique teaching and policy development requirements for training and deploying an AR-15 platform rifle in a modern police setting.

Requirements

Certification requirements for the Police Training Institute Master Rifle Instructor are:

  • Patrol  Rifle Instructor (5 day)
  • Police Tactical Rifle (5 day)
  • Police Strategy and Tactics (5 day)

Prerequisites are Police Training Institute classes ONLY, no substitutions / no exceptions.

Note: There is no time limit for the completion of the requirements.

Upon successful completion of the Master Rifle Instructor Apprenticeship, you will receive a Master Rifle Instructor certification from the Police Training Insitute that will be valid for three (3) years.

Equipment

Officer shall bring an AR-15 platform rifle in .223/5.56mm only and associated magazines/gear. The rifle must be equipped with a sling. The rifle can be equipped with an optic but MUST have iron sights and iron sights MUST be co-witnessed or otherwise accessible at all times. Officer will qualify with iron sights, no exceptions. The class may or may not start with a short classroom session. All other training will be outdoors and officers must be prepared for the weather.
